I have received some inquiries regarding when the next DWI or OUI seminars are coming up, so I will post some information about the next two of them here. I will be on the faculty for both of these. Both seminars are continuing legal education (CLE) courses presented by Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education (MCLE), and are co-sponsored by the Massachusetts Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (MACDL). The seminars will both be titled "Handling OUI Cases", and they will be held at the following dates, times and locations:
October 27, 2009, 1 to 5 p.m. Taunton, MA.
Taunton Holiday Inn-700 Myles Standish Boulevard, Taunton, MA

November 5, 2009, 1 to 5 p.m. Burlington, MA
Hilton Garden Inn-5 Wheeler Road, Burlington, MA
My topic for presentation at both of these two seminars will be "marine field sobriety testing", the battery of tests used in "boating while intoxicated" or "boating under the influence" cases. The focus of my presentation will be on analysis of the boat operator's performance on the field tests and development of cross examination for boating while intoxicated cases. I will go into the six basic tests that comprise the marine field sobriety test battery and provide some ideas on where potentially fertile cross examination areas lie.
